About Big Metal Fashion Jewellery

Founded by owner James McGrath, Big Metal has been the culmination of many experiences, including making didgeridoos in India at the start of my career.

I progressed to exporting wood carvings in Papa New Guinea which is where, after drinking the local brew, I became interested in women's fashion accessories. It was an opportunity to transfer my creativity into a vibrant industry and I established Big Metal in 1993.

The first products we made were blob rings and we operated from my mother's garden shed.

Much to her delight and ours, we have moved out of the shed into a studio, but the blob ring went on to be a key style for Big Metal. A big factor in the brand's growth has been our supportive customers, some of whom have been with us since day one.

At Big Metal we are based on a philosophy of having happy customers and I think that simple approach to the business has gone a long way in helping us to establish a firm presence among UK buyers.

We adapt to the changing demands of the market, consistently coming up with innovative designs at competitive prices, and that is the secret to success when supplying our core clientele of independant retailers.

Many of our customers who came to see us at a recent trade fair were surprised to see a new look just a week later at another Trade Fair.

Long gone are the days when a particular style would have a long life - accessories change from season to season and we are able to keep up because we are one of the few accessories brands to have a manufacturing arm in the UK.

I also incorporate trends into the styles depending on whether I'm feeling it or not and whether we think our customers will be happy with our new designs.
